First steps: April 2020 to September 2020

  • Start early and by August, shortlist 8-12 universities that you will apply to. Visit university websites and note application requirements, deadlines etc.
  • By September, be familiar with bank loan options and scholarships to fund your studies.
  • Start working on UCAS admission form (for UG courses) and individual college applications (for PG courses).
  • Do some initial research on various accommodation options.

Crack the exams: June 2020 to December 2020

  • Prepare for required standardised tests like GMAT, GRE, UKCAT, TOEFL or IELTS - depending on the course and university.
  • By June-July or three months before the test date, register for GMAT/register for GRE.
  • Register for TOEFL/IELTS at least a month before the test date.
  • Take the required tests around September. Plan for buffer time in case you need to retake the test. Check test-taking and re-exam process and guidelines.

It’s application time: August 2020 to November 2020

  • Shortlist the colleges and prepare for your application. Think hard about what makes you unique as an applicant and sketch out your strengths and self-assessment.
  • Contact your professors and direct managers for the required 2-3 reference letters. At least a month before your application deadline. Check the deadline timetable!
  • Begin drafting your SOP and essays. Give a month’s time to structure these documents properly.
  • Apply before the deadline!

What next: December 2020 to April 2021

  • Don’t delay replying to college e-mails. And there will be quite a few!
  • Appear for personal/video interviews. These are scheduled around January to March.
  • Once you get acceptance letters, make your decision as soon as possible.
  • Depending on the deadline, notify the universities of your decision.
  • You would need to pay a non-refundable deposit to confirm your admission.

Visa and money matters: May 2021 to July 2021

  • Search for and begin applying for external scholarships (if applicable).
  • Apply for student loan, after you get your acceptance letter.
  • Gather paperwork for your student visa.
  • Apply for student visa in time. Keep in mind the time taken for visa processing!

Get ready to fly: July 2021 to August 2021

  • Book airline tickets.
  • Arrange for an Internation Debit/Credit card.
  • Collect all the documents and their photocopies, to take along.
  • Check out Pre-departure checklist!

Hi, I have applied to 5-7 UK universities for MS in May, 2020 for the september intakes. Due to my college lockdown in UAE , i could not arrange for my documents on time and had to apply in may. Do you think i am late for the september intakes?

Dear Shivam,
The application deadlines for September 2020 would have closed in most of the universities. If you still want to try, you may visit the official websites of the UK universities and check in case they have extended the application deadline due to COVID outbreak. If not, you should try to apply in the Spring 2021 intake. This would allow you ample time to arrange funds and do the visa formalities, etc. Good Luck!

Dear Judah,
To answer all your queries:
1) The university deadlines for September Intake close early in the beginning of a new year. It would be better for you to plan the February 2021 Intake. Its deadline would be open as of now.
2) The Universities that offer admits without IELTS are not very good, but average. For students with above-average profiles, it is recommended to give the IELTS exam.
3) For your last query, please refer to https://studyabroad.eservicestar.com/living-costs-for-international-students-in-uk-articlepage-573

I have 75% throughout my academics. Now I am preparing for the IELTS exam. Apart from that, I am collecting my documents for application and I will start applying in mid of March. So please give me the general details about the university deadlines for September intake.

Hi Rohit,
The deadline varies for every university. an important point to note is: the sooner you apply the higher are the chances of being selected. Ideally, the university deadlines close 3-4 months before any intake for a session, sometimes even earlier than that. So, plan everything a few months in advance.

Hi.Iam planning to study international MBA in University of Greenwich in September 2020 intake. Now iam doing my degree and it will be complete in April 2020.I got 6.5 overall in ielts. Is there any chance to get admission in the university in september intake 2020?

Hi Vishnu, it will be better if you target the Spring or Fall 2021 intake. If your result will be out in April, then the process after that will take at least 6-7 months. University shortlisting, finances, documentation, and after receiving admit, paying fees, getting visa approval, checking accommodation, booking tickets, etc.

Hi Shubham, first of all, you need to take the IELTS/TOEFL or GRE (if required) exams. Post this, your university shortlisting process should start according to your score and budget. The rest of the process shall fall in place as explained above in the article. Thanks!

hello,
I am planning for MS in UK for September 2020 intake, appearing for exam in march 2020. Is there any chance i can go for September intake? need guidance on this.

Srishti Chatterjee

Study Abroad Expert4 months ago

Hi Gaurav, the application process is a tedious task, you need to start preparing at least 7-8 months prior to the time you plan on applying. Even if you secure an admit now, you would need to get all your documentation done, think about finances, get visa approval, pay fees, book tickets etc. This itself would take 3-4 months. It will be better if you target Spring 2021 or Fall 2021. For expert guidance, contact our advisors directly here: https://studyabroad.eservicestar.com/apply
Thanks!

Kirandeep, if you are targetting for a UG course then it will be difficult as you have an extended study gap. Minimum two-year gap is allowed for UG course that too with a relevant and convincing proof regarding the gap. In your case, you have a three-year gap and one year experience. Hope this resolves your query, thanks!
