First steps: April 2020 to September 2020

  • Start early and by August, shortlist 8-12 universities that you will apply to. Visit university websites and note application requirements, deadlines etc.
  • By September, be familiar with bank loan options and scholarships to fund your studies.
  • Begin by downloading admissions brochures from the university websites. Most brochures are out more than a year earlier.
  • Do some initial research on various accommodation options.

Crack the exams: June 2020 to December 2020

  • Prepare for required standardised tests like GMAT, GRE, SATTOEFL, or IELTS - depending on the course and university.
  • By June-July or three months before the test date, register for GMAT/ GRE.
  • Register for TOEFL/IELTS at least a month before the test date.
  • Take the required tests around September. Plan for buffer time in case you need to retake the test. Check test taking and re-exam process and guidelines.

It’s application time: August 2020 to October 2020

  • Shortlist the colleges and prepare for your application. Think hard about what makes you unique as an applicant and sketch out your strengths and self-assessment.
  • Contact your professors and direct managers for the required 2-3 reference letters. At least a month before your application deadline. Check the deadline timetable!
  • Begin drafting your SOP and essays. Give a month’s time to structure these documents properly.
  • Apply before the deadline!

What next: November 2020 to April 2021

  • Do not delay replying to college e-mails. And there will be quite a few!
  • Appear for personal/video interviews. These are scheduled around January to March.
  • Once you get acceptance letters, make your decision as soon as possible.
  • Depending on the deadline, notify the universities of your decision.
  • You will need to pay a non-refundable deposit to confirm your admission.

Visa and money matters: May 2021 to July 2021

  • Search for and begin applying for external scholarships (if applicable).
  • Apply for student loan, after you get your acceptance letter.
  • Gather paperwork for your student visa. Check visa requirements.
  • Apply for student visa in time. Keep in mind the time taken for visa processing!

Get ready to fly: July 2021 to August 2021

  • Book airline tickets.
  • Arrange for an Internation Debit/Credit card.
  • Collect all the documents and their photocopies, to take along.
  • Check out the Pre-departure checklist!

Hi,
I am an IT professional and aspire to do MS in Software Engineering in US. I have given my IELTS and will give the GRE in early May 2020. I am looking for US deadlines for Spring 2021 intake. Could you help ?

Dear Shalaka,
Having given the exams, you are ready to work on your university application material. You should start preparing your SOP and LORs for the universities you would have shortlisted. Meanwhile, start arranging funds and prepare for the visa.
Do these step by step and you will be ready to make the university application by start of Spring, that is in February 2021.
For Visa, you may refer to the F1 Visa Timeline for the same https://studyabroad.eservicestar.com/f1-student-visa-timelines-applycontent51727.
If you want, you may seek the exact guidance on the entire application process to the US Universities with our free-of-cost expert counsellors here https://studyabroad.eservicestar.com/apply.

Dear NandaKiran,
You would need to be more specific regarding the kind of a course you aspire to pursue. Which domain do you wish to choose? Besides, as stated above, making abroad applications is almost a year-long process, you should try for Spring 2021 intake rather than Fall 2020. This way you would get some time to do all the application and visa formalities properly.

Dear Sindhu,
快穿系统女主深吻h To pursue a master's degree in the USA, you need TOEFL and GRE scores. As far as being specific to MS in Fashion design is concerned, it is recommended that you choose a set of US universities and check out the exact requirements apart from these exams. All the best!

Hi Sushma,
Most of the US Universities would have their application deadlines closed for Fall 2020 intake. If the still have a list of colleges with open application deadlines, you should start filling the university applications before it's too late. Also, remember that Visa and Bank formalities take time to process, so you need to be really quick. If you need help with shortlisting and applying to good US universities, you may connect with our expert counsellors, who provide free of cost services: https://studyabroad.eservicestar.com/apply.

Hi Chittu, you can target Spring 2021 intake but not this year. You should take the SAT exam now so that according to the scores, you start applying. Thanks!

Hi Arpit, you can start the application process after completing Class 12th. As soon as you finish with the Class 12 exams, you should book your seat for IELTS/TOEFL or SAT (if required). While you get the scores for these exams and Class 12 result, start with shortlisting universities. After getting the scores and exam result, you start the application process. Thanks!

Hi Rashika, if you want to apply for admission right after graduating, then you should start taking classes 2-3 months before your GMAT exam date. As soon as you finish with your graduation, book a GMAT slot and start prepping for the exam. Once you have your scores, you can seek guidance from our experts at https://studyabroad.eservicestar.com/apply

Hi Harsha, you can go as an exchange student only if your college/university has this provision of sending students to other countries for a semester or two. Thanks!
